3 Things to Know About Non-Degree Education Programs

If a 4-year college degree isn’t what you’re looking for, there are alternatives that can give you an advantage in the job market or advance your knowledge in an area of your choice.   At Morton College, non-degree programs offer a variety of options for adults seeking to improve their skills, increase their knowledge, and become better hiring candidates in a specific industry.   Here are 3 things to know about non-degree programs at Morton College:

1.   There are many types to choose from.   “We offer certificate programs, adult continuing education options, free English as a second language (ESL) classes, and a high school equivalency program,” explained Michael Rose, Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives, Adult and CTE for Morton College in Cicero.   “The certificate programs are varied, and allow students to earn college credits toward an Associate degree while earning a credential along the way.   Many of these students come back later and earn an Associate degree.   Certificate program examples include Early Childhood Education, Office Management Technology, Forklift Training, Dental Hygienist, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Veterinary Assistant, and Pharmacy Technician.   Many of these certificates can be earned in less than 6 months, and some can even be earned in one weekend.”

2.   Morton College offers ICAP (Integrated Career Academic Preparation) classes, which provide dual credit for adult education students who don’t have a high school diploma.   “Students earn a certificate credential while earning their high school equivalency certificate,” added Rose.

3.   The certificate and adult education programs at Morton College focus on improving employability skills.   “Our students learn employment skills, like how to put together a professional email and how to create a resume,” said Rose.   “They learn the importance of punctuality and other skills that will increase their chance of gaining employment.   These programs are also terrific for anyone considering a career change.”
