Kettlebells provide a great cardio workout without high impact movements.
Kettlebells are a fun, safe fitness option for individuals of any age, shape and size! This is ideal for someone who wants to incorporate both cardio and strength because it maximizes both forms of exercise.
“There are a variety of exercises you can do utilizing all different muscle groups,” said Maureen Nosek, owner/operator of Get In Shape For Women in LaGrange. Kettlebells allow for fluid motion – the ability to move from exercise to exercise with ease because you are not using multiple pieces of equipment. This allows you to keep intensity high which burns more calories.”
There has been a recent surge in kettlebell training because it’s an optimal workout that gets back to basic training with fundamental, whole body fitness and provides a great way to get a complete, full body workout in a relatively short period of time.
According to a study by the American Council on Exercise, the average person burns 400 calories in 20 minutes when using a kettlebell.
“Kettlebells allow you a different way to move with weights,” said Nosek. “Not only are you incorporating both upper and lower body muscle groups with each exercise, but also getting that heart pumping. Kettlebells are mobile and they are just fun to use!”
Selecting the right kettlebell weight is important to avoid injury. Nosek recommends starting with a lighter weight kettlebell – 8 to 15 pounds – to avoid injury.
“Start with lighter weight kettlebell. Beginners should start slowly,” Nosek said. “Ultimately, it is better to train less and more often in the beginning than going all out. You don’t want to cause an injury that prevents any kind of exercise at all.
Nosek recommends researching a variety of moves on the Internet, or seek the advice of a personal trainer. Get In Shape for Women trainers will make sure that you are doing exercises correctly and continue to challenge you to move to the next level!
