Myth Busters – Long-Term Care Planning is Easier and More Affordable than You Think

With all the talk about Millennials, the fact is, America is getting old.

There is a good chance you are a member of Generation X, Late-Boomer or Baby Boomer generation. If you are over 40, the bulls-eye is on you. It is important to be planning for your longevity.

“Research shows most individuals understand that people will need Long-Term Care Insurance due to the likelihood of needing extended care at some point. However, a large amount of people think it won’t happen to them. Everyone is pointing at each other,” said Matt McCann, a nationally known speaker on long-term care planning and an expert on Long-Term Care Insurance.

McCann says people have preconceived myths as to why they don’t need a plan. The facts bust the myths.

1. I will never need care; I am healthy.

If you are healthy today, you will just live longer. Longevity by itself is a risk of needing care due to age fragility and the risk of cognitive decline, which increases with age.

2. I have health issues and I can’t get a plan, or it will cost too much.

A Long-Term Care specialist can often find coverage. Plans are very affordable if you start prior to retirement.

3. My health insurance and Medicare once I retire will pay for it.

These plans will only pay for a limited amount of skilled care. Only Long-Term Care Insurance will pay for custodial care.

4. It just costs too much, and they have too many rate increases.

Old legacy policies, marketed decades ago prior to rate stabilization rules and prior to the interest rate crash did have increases. Today’s Long-Term Care Insurance is very affordable and rate stable according to the experts.

5. If I never need care, I wasted all that money.

There are plans which offer return of premium or death benefits. However, the premiums are so affordable you might not want to worry about those options.
