Funeral Services Provide Comfort With Smaller, Intimate Gatherings

During the pandemic crisis, funeral homes have been able to continue to work with families after the loss of a dear loved one. At Adolf Funeral Home, services are being provided to the community under the guidance of the CDC and the state of Illinois, and also with wonderful advice from the Illinois Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association; Adolf Funeral Home is a member of both organizations.

"Interestingly, very few of our clients have chosen to use video taping or streaming services," said John Adolf, Director of Adolf Funeral Home. "We are certainly capable of providing those services, but after getting into the details and discovering the end result, most families have decided not to go that route. Most schedule a more celebratory memorial service to be held at a later date, once we're permitted to host larger gatherings."

Adolf explained that the services he has taken care of over the last few months have involved people directly affected by the Covid-19 virus, but also many who were not. "We've provided memorial services that have been very similar to our normal offerings, but on a much smaller scale," he said. "Families still want to have services, so we adjust to meet their needs as best we can. During this period of restrictions, we've been providing additional comfort to families by explaining that we will only have their family in our building during their services. We concentrate all our efforts on taking care of one family at a time."

One positive result that Adolf has noticed during this period of social distancing and isolation is that it seems to have brought families closer together. "After services have concluded, many families have commented to me that the private family atmosphere provided them more comfort than they expected," he added. "We'll continue to do our best to provide services to the community in the safest way possible."
