U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski introduced legislation that directs the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to raise public awareness about the use and benefits of personal protective equipment.

Lipinski, D-Western Springs, said in a news release that the MASKS ON Act, H.R. 6653, is meant to help minimize the spread of the novel coronavirus and give Americans clear guidance on PPE use.

“People in Illinois and around the country are attempting to make the best decisions to protect their health and the health of their families and neighbors,” Lipinski said in the release. “The amount of the information and misinformation about how to best defend against this virus has left many feeling frustrated and overwhelmed.”

The bill requires the CDC to develop materials and publicly share information, including which types of PPE provide protection; proper techniques to put on, wear and remove PPE; and the limitations of PPE.

Lipinski said that workplaces need a sufficient supply of PPE to help fight the continued spread of the virus. The congressman has worked directly with the Problem Solvers Caucus in developing a “back-to-work” plan that sets clear benchmarks for reopening the American economy.
