LISLE – Meal Village is a Lisle-based business whose services include delivering meal packages to senior citizens in the suburbs and Chicago area who are sheltered-in-place and living on their own.

The program provides families and caregivers a means to ensure that their loved ones have access to fresh, nutrient-rich meals while COVID-19 distancing restrictions are in place, a news release stated. The packages contain scratch-made meals and include a full dinner entrée, a salad (such as a Baja salad or seven-layer salad with chicken) and homemade soup for lunch, a snack and a cookie – ready-to-eat or heat and eat. The menu changes daily and can be viewed at www.mealvillage.com.

Meal Village founder and CEO Ravi Ayyalaraju noted he was inspired by his grandmother to channel his engineering, computer science and management degrees from Kellogg Graduate School of Management into a career with a higher purpose.

“My grandmother would ask me, ‘How are you using all of your degrees to help people?’” Ayyalaraju stated in the release. “My family has always nurtured each other through homemade food prepared with love – we rallied around my grandmother in times of need to ensure she lived her 97 years to the fullest. It is my company’s mission to play a small and important role in enhancing the quality of life for our customers. In these trying times, it is more important than ever that we not only take care of ourselves, but also members of the ‘Villages’ that we inhabit.”

The packages provide a full day’s worth of never frozen meals for $22. The food is brought to homes via no-contact delivery, and the preparers follow the safety guidelines put forth by the state during the pandemic, the release stated.

The company has set up a hotline for seniors to guide them through the ordering process and meal preparation, and for family members looking for information or to check in on the status of deliveries. The hotline can be reached from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday at 888-610-2232.

Meal Village, launched in 2016, is a delivery-only restaurant in Lisle. It cooks meals every day from fresh and raw ingredients and delivers them chilled and ready to eat within two minutes.
