Four from Montini placed third – Nick Gonzalez (113), Ethan Stiles (132), Brayden Thompson (160) and Fidel Mayora (145).
Perhaps the standout third-place match came at 145 pounds, where Mayora avenged a loss to Batavia's Mike Caliendo with a 3-2 win. It was the same score as the sectional, but with a reversal of outcomes.
"It was a good win," said Mayora, a four-time state placer. "I'm happy that I got that match back that I lost. I should've been more prepared when I wrestled him at sectionals."
Nain Vazquez (120) placed fourth after losing a 6-3 decision to Mount Carmel's Colton Drousias. Montini's Braden Stauffenberg (138) placed sixth.
In Class 1A, IC Catholic Prep freshman Saul Trejo Jr won the 106-pound championship in a 5-0 decision over Althoff's Matthew Minick. Trejo Jr. was the top-rank for his class from the IWCOA, and won his first state title with relative ease.
Trejo Jr. sported a black left eye in his postgame interview, earning it in his earlier semifinal match.
"Just a small price to pay for all of this, though," Trejo Jr. said following his podium moment. "It feels great because this is one of many years...I'm a part-time wrestler. I wrestle for only 1/4 of the year [because of soccer]. Achieving something so great, it's just amazing."
Nazareth senior Alex Carrillo, a four-time state qualifier, won his final match, pinning Dwight's Daniel Gutierrez in 3:27 for third place in the Class 1A 145-pound class.
Willowbrook's Elijah Brockie finished in sixth after losing in the Class 3A fifth-round match to Lockport's Blackburn-Forst.
