Downers Grove police investigate armed carjacking

DOWNERS GROVE - Downers Grove police are investigating a reported armed carjacking that took place Nov. 30.

Police at about 7 p.m. responded to a report of an armed carjacking in the 2000 block of Prairie Avenue. During the incident, a man armed with a gun exited a white 2017 Nissan Altima with tinted windows and Illinois plate numbers BQ44989.

The subject approached the occupants of a gray 2008 Lexus sedan with Illinois plate numbers AP99132. The occupants were ordered to exit the car, which was stolen without further incident, according to a Downers Grove police news release.

The offender was described as man, approximately 5' feet 5 inches tall. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and red ski mask while armed with a black handgun, according to the release.

Downers Grove Police Chief Shanon Gillette reminds residents to avoid further risk by not attempting to resist someone who is armed and demanding that property be relinquished.
