Although seniors Colin Crothers and Matt Reid are the main returnees from last season’s team, they enter the summer at completely different stages of their career development.
The 6-foot-8 Crothers is well-known in the Chicagoland hoops scene. Crothers, a four-year varsity member, averaged 13.2 points and 8.2 rebounds in his junior season. He fed off a fast start to become a consistent inside-outside force for a well-balanced Redwings’ team.
Crothers, who averaged 9.8 points and 5.8 rebounds as a sophomore, said he’s aiming for another uptick in his overall numbers this winter.
“I’m working more on expanding my game outside, just shooting more and driving and facilitating out of the high post area,” Crothers said. “It’s different now for me because I’m trying to step up more as a leader and have to be more vocal and lead everyone on the court and trying to be someone everyone can turn to in crunch time. With my experience, I can help a lot of the guys, especially the younger guys.”
