McKay's dad, Ross, was a professional hockey goaltender. He notably got in one game with the Hartford Whalers, now the Carolina Hurricanes, during the 1990-91 season. Randi's older brother Dryden, is one of the top goaltenders in college hockey as a freshman, and this year helped lead Minnesota State to its sixth NCAA Division I Tournament appearance.

"I don't want anybody to beat me. They have to earn it," said McKay, who will play collegiately at Wisconsin-Green Bay. "I zone in and believe in myself. If there are runners on I don't want them to score. I was lucky to have the defense behind me that made big plays."
