The Naperville Park District notified the group late last summer that there will be construction which would prevent Ribfest from being held at its normal location, Knoch Park in Naperville. The Exchange Club said Ribfest has been held at the park since at least 1990.
Exchange Club spokeswoman Mary Howenspine said Ribfest attracted about 150,000 in 2017, of which about 80,000 were paid attendees. It also is a big charity event, raising about $17.5 million since 1988. The club has given the money to local organizations.
The Exchange Club said in January that Romeoville was among the list of finalists to host Ribfest starting in 2020, along with sites in Aurora and Oswego. Noak said he didn’t know just how many sites were considered in total, but he felt Romeoville could offer a lot that other municipalities couldn’t.
