It's time for the 3rd annual Westmont Restaurant Week. This year’s event, which runs from Feb. 28 through March 10, includes more 30 local restaurants featuring specials for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Many old favorites are back, a couple of reformatted restaurants return and several new venues have joined the party. Restaurants are asked to price menu options at the $10, $20, $30 or $40 price range.
A reveal party will be held at the Westmont Chamber’s semi-annual open house on Feb. 20, and all of the menu options can be found on the chamber’s website at www.westmontchamber.com.
Several interesting choices join Westmont Restaurant Week under the first-time category, and there is truly a round the world experience cumulatively.
Katy’s Dumpling House offers a pick two plus a crab Rangoon for $20, which loosely translates into lunch for two for $10 each. One of my choices would be the pork and onion stir fried pancake. Large one-foot diameter pancakes are pulled and hand rolled after being infused with spices and onion oil.
A quick pan fry to lightly brown both sides and the pancakes are carefully shredded with a large cleaver. The resulting pancake strips are combined with a choice of ingredients such as pork and onion creating a flavorful dish as the caramelization of the onion provides an offsetting sweetness to the oil and spices.
