Take charge of diabetes at Viverito Senior Center

Series of classes offers tips and advice to seniors

STICKNEY – The Louis S. Viverito Senior Center, in collaboration with AgeOptions, invites residents to take part in the “Take Charge of Your Diabetes” workshop, an evidence-based program developed by Stanford University that is designed to provide older adults with the tools they need to control diabetes.

The center will be conducting six classes for six weeks, once a week for 2.5 hours.

There is a 20-minute break at each class, and classes are broken down into small activities: overview of self-management and diabetes, nutrition and healthy eating, preventing low blood sugar, difficult emotions, fitness and exercise, stress management, monitoring blood sugar, and skin and foot care.

The workshop will be held at the Louis S. Viverito Senior Center, 7745 S. Leamington Ave. in Burbank.

The “Take Charge of Your Diabetes” workshop series is being offered in English on Thursdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. starting Jan. 10 and running through Feb. 14.

The series is being offered in Spanish on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. starting Jan. 16 and running through Feb. 20.

For information and to register, call the Louis S. Viverito Senior Center at 708-636-8850.
