WHEATON – A loving homage to the slapstick humor of silent movie stars is about to come alive on the Wheaton Drama stage, where not a word will be spoken, but the comedy will be screaming volumes.
"I don't know anybody who's directed this before," said veteran director Craig Gustafson of Lombard, who personally crafted the 120 projected title cards.
Playing Billy, a hapless schnook in New York in 1917, is Jake Murphy of St. Charles, whose love interest is portrayed by Mackenzie Grattan of Winfield.
"She nailed the audition on the first reading," Gustafson said, noting her resume included college training in commedia dell'arte and clowning, which left him thinking, "OK, I think she's got the job."
