ELMHURST – The Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation will host its 42nd Annual Reindeer Route Housewalk Dec. 7. The event is scheduled to feature seven Elmhurst homes, raising money for scholarships for teenagers who volunteer at the hospital.
The housewalk will have two sessions - from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. - to feature the homes, which will be decorated for the holidays by local florists.
The homes and florists featured will be 203 E. South St. with Phillip's Flowers; 414 S. Arlington Ave. with A Stem Above; 174 S. Kenmore Ave. with Carousel Flowers; 140 E. May St. with Shamrock Garden Florist; 545 Armitage Ave. with The Uptown Shop and Blossoms of Lombard; and 170 Evergreen Ave. and Blossoms and Branches. Elmhurst Art Museum's McCormick House, at 150 Cottage Hill Ave., also will be featured.
Tickets are $30 in advance and can be purchased at the foundation's office at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, or online at www.emhfoundation.org/events. Tickets will be available for $40 at Guaranteed Rate, 115 W. Adelaide St. in Elmhurst from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. - but not at the featured homes - on the day of the event.
The foundation also seeks donations of art supplies, books and small games that will be placed in waiting rooms on inpatient floors of the main hospital and in the Nancy W. Knowles Cancer Center, the release stated. Supplies needed include children’s coloring books, adult coloring books, 4-packs or 8-packs of crayons or coloring pencils, playing cards, books, crossword puzzles, word searches and Sudoku and activity books, according to the release. The donations can be dropped off at housewalk homes.
A portion of proceeds from the 2018 Reindeer Route Housewalk will benefit the Teen Volunteer Health Profession Scholarship fund, which also includes the Marilyn A. Graber Teen Scholarship, the release stated. The scholarships are for teen hospital volunteers interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.
