The Elmhurst History Museum and Bensenville Park District partnered to showcase local history with Heritage Day on Oct. 13 at Churchville Schoolhouse and Fischer Farm in Bensenville.
The event enabled visitors to explore aspects of what life was like in the 19th and early 20th centuries with a variety of activities, including crafts, demonstrations, music and dancing.
Children played with antique toys, such as Jacob's ladders, hoops and sticks, and thaumatropes. When a thaumatrope is quickly turned, the images on each side, such as a bare tree and leaves that would go on the tree, appear to blend into one image, making it appear as if the leaves are on the tree.
The event also featured square dancing, a petting zoo, pony rides, World War I reenactors and a performance by the Conrad Fischer School Singers.
