WHEATON – Autumn is one of the most beautiful and festive times of the year, and Cantigny Park is once again celebrating the season with its annual Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 13.
Guests are invited to tour the newly renovated parks and gardens, while browsing wares from more than 70 craft vendors and enjoying a number of family friendly activities.
Banjo Buddies Dixieland Trio kicks off the live music at 10 a.m. and performs again at 1 p.m., while Riverside Ramblers take the stage at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Children can enjoy five bounce houses, a scarecrow juggling show, face painting, petting zoo, crafts and performances by ScribbleMonster at 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m. Usborne Books also will be hosting a book fair in the Visitors Center gallery.
Admission to the event is free, but some of the children’s activities have a small charge. Parking is $5.
The greenhouse will be selling plants, flowers and pumpkins, and families can take a hayride around the beautiful park grounds. Adults can sip on a frosty beverage from the beer tent on the Le Jardin Patio, and food and goodies will be available from Big Mama’s Kitchen, Kernel Dan’s Kettle Corn, Golden Eagle Hot Dogs, Gnarly Knots, Cupcakes for Courage, Jolly Posh, Mamie’s Toffee and Treats, and Timbo’s Licorice Ropes.
Magan Ascher, director of visitor services at Cantigny, said the Fall Festival is one of the biggest events the park hosts each year, and it offers fun activities for all ages.
“We offer two stages with ‘adult music’ at one and children’s music/activities at the other,” she said in an email. “This is the best time to come for plant sales. The greenhouse brings out beautiful plants to decorate your home and garden. Because the activities are all day long, you do not have to be here at any specific time.”
Cantigny Executive Director Matt LaFond said the Fall Festival is the perfect time to visit the park.
“The fall color is getting better every day, and our newly opened gardens were just replanted for the season," LaFond said in a statement. "I’d encourage festival visitors to take a stroll on the grounds to see what’s new, including the Red Oaks Farm playground in the picnic area."
