Why are you the best candidate for this office?

I have over 22 years of experience in the County Clerk’s office. I started as a Revenue Specialist and was promoted to Chief Deputy County Clerk, before being elected to the position of County Clerk in 2014. I have a working knowledge of the variety of duties of the office, from transcribing County Board and ETSB 911 minutes, to issuing birth certificates and marriage licenses.

As County Clerk, I witnessed the Governor signing into law, the bill allowing the merger of the Election Commission with the County Clerk’s office. As President of the County Clerks & Recorders Association, I meet with the State Board of Elections staff and fellow County Clerks on issues affecting election administration. The knowledge I have gained through these meetings is and will be invaluable in the implementation of the consolidation of the Election Commission into the County Clerk’s office.

Where do you stand on consolidation efforts in DuPage County? What additional steps – if any – should be taken?

I support consolidation when it is in the best interest of the citizens to reduce cost and increase efficiencies. The County should continue to evaluate County Departments and other taxing districts to save taxpayer dollars. I am willing to implement any future consolidation that involves the County Clerk’s office.

How will you ensure a smooth and transparent transition as the DuPage County Clerk’s Office takes over the duties of the DuPage County Election Commission?

During the transition, I will determine the roles and responsibilities of the Election Commission employees and how they will align with the Clerk’s office and organization. I will assess the current hardware and software needs and seek input from the Election Commission staff and the County’s IT Department as to what improvements are needed to ensure an accurate and secure voting system. I will also seek input from the election judges and assess our polling places to determine what is needed to enhance the voter’s experience.
