DOWNERS GROVE – The Downers Grove Golf Club has completed construction of a new driving range shelter, and the Downers Grove Park District will host a grand opening celebration to dedicate it from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at 2420 Haddow Ave. in Downers Grove.
The celebration will include a dedication ceremony at 6 p.m. Guests will receive giveaways and small buckets of balls to use on the range, as well as complimentary appetizers, according to a Park District news release. Adult beverages will be available for purchase, and Cleveland Golf will be on site for golf club demonstrations.
The new driving range shelter covers 10 of the existing 24 driving range hitting stations and features infrared heaters, lights and ceiling fans, the release stated. Garage doors on the south side of the shelter help to block wind or allow for additional airflow. Twenty solar panels soon will be installed on the roof of the structure to help generate energy for the heaters and fans.
The shelter is available to driving range visitors on a first-come, first-served basis for no additional fee, according to the release.
Park District Director of Recreation Dave Haring said the new shelter will help to provide more play time throughout the year.
“The Downers Grove Golf Club could not be more thrilled to provide this new amenity to our visitors,” he said in the release. “The new shelter will provide the opportunity to offer an extended golf season, while keeping golfers more comfortable on hot or cold days.”
