ELMHURST – A Villa Park man has been charged with two felonies after allegedly stealing three bottles of alcohol between 12:01 a.m. June 25 and 4:30 p.m. June 29 from Armand's PIzzeria's office at 107 W. First St. in Elmhurst.
Gary Batchelder, 34, of the 1S100 block of Dillon Lane, was charged July 20 with burglary and theft at the Elmhurst Police Department.
Elmhurst Deputy Police Chief Mike McLean said Armand's personnel found two tools left in the office that did not belong there, and detectives suspected the tools may have been used to enter the locked office.
Through further investigation, police learned the tools belonged to a separate business that had space in the office building at 107 W. First St., McLean said. Batchelder is an employee of that business, he said.
McLean added he doubted the offender knew what would be found in the office at the time of the burglary.
Batchelder is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Aug. 13 in room 4014 of the DuPage County Courthouse.
