BARTLETT – Rakesh Chopra managed to find a creative way to come to the United States from India when he was about 20 years old, and he now employs creativity with the pairing of Indian and French cuisines at D'licious Crêpes and Rōti, which is at 225 S. Main St. in Bartlett.
Chopra, now 55, said that since he did not have a governmental waiver to leave India because he was a student and not a skilled worker, he and a friend had to find another way.
After hopping from country to country, working various jobs and traveling in everything from a rickshaw to an airplane, they finally made it to the United States.
"We came here to make sure that we live the American dream," Chopra said. "I love this country. Every day, I wake up and I admire the trees. I admire the roads. I admire the cars. I admire the police. I admire everything of this country. I love this country so much. I carry the American flag everywhere, even in my car. I'm so proud to be American."
