“I’m very happy,” Timothy Christian coach Michele Strube said. “First time in this building, first regional in seven years, it’s going to be a very special team for people to remember.”
The way the Trojans did it was memorable. They used a box-and-one to hold Lisle star Natalie Takahashi without a basket. The Monmouth recruit, who is Lisle’s all-time leading scorer with 1,240 points, tied her career-high with 30 points in a semifinal win over Westmont, but was held to seven points by the Trojans.
“Abby [Carstensen and Heidi [Westra] did a phenomenal job,” Strube said. “We had height, we put quickness on her, we subbed.
“We were going to let the [rest of their] team beat us, which they were for awhile, but then we kind of spread out that box and it worked.”
