Residents will have a lot more to like about the Westmont Public Library with the rollout of several new services coming this spring.
As the director of the library, it is my pleasure to announce some of the exciting changes on the horizon and encourage you to visit the library, talk with our staff, and let us know how we can help enrich and educate our community.
One of the most noticeable enhancements coming this spring is the addition of three new self-checkout machines – two in the main lobby and one in the youth area.
Visitors who prefer additional privacy, independence and reduced wait times can use these machines to checkout materials at their convenience. We will continue to offer friendly one-on-one checkout service at our main desks for those patrons who prefer traditional customer service.
Visitors can choose the type of interaction they would like when they walk through our doors, and staff will be available when and where the patrons require assistance.
Behind the scenes this winter, library staff and volunteers will be busy tagging all the materials in our collection with special radio frequency identification tags.
These new tags will enable the self-checkout machines to scan several items at one time so visitors can simply place their material on the machines and let the technology do the work. The tags will also provide added security and inventory for our collections so we can focus on adding new and current materials to our shelves for all to enjoy.
In addition to these new services, we are currently developing plans for modest facility updates that will be implemented over the next several years.
To help us prioritize these projects, as well as plan for future programs and services, we kindly ask residents to fill out the community survey that was mailed to homes in the winter newsletter. Paper copies of the survey are available at the library and online at westmontlibrary.org/survey.
We thank you in advance for your feedback and continued support of the Westmont Public Library. We look forward to seeing you soon!
