LEMONT – The Lemont Fire Protection Agency and assisting departments were able to put out a fire that fully engulfed a metal storage barn Monday on the property of Jurca Tree Farm, 17561 Bluff Road.
Lemont Fire Chief George Rimbo said no one was hurt and no other structures were damaged in the fire.
Rimbo said the department received a call on the fire at 8:12 a.m., and the 200-by-200-foot storage barn was fully involved by the time they got there.
"There was fire coming through the roof, which is a sure sign that we have a big fire inside," he said.
Large plumes of smoke drew the attention of some residents, who called the department, Rimbo said. He said there were no chemicals inside the barn, other than gas and propane.
It took two hours for the Lemont, Darien/Woodridge, Romeoville, Downers Grove and Northwest Homer fire departments to put the fire out, he said.
Investigators are still trying to figure out the cause of the fire, he said.
