WEST CHICAGO – A four-door Nissan sedan crashed through a garage at about 9:30 a.m. Friday in the 400 block of Colford Avenue in West Chicago, according to a news release from the West Chicago Police Department.
A witness who wished to remain anonymous said the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle before being transported by ambulance to Reed-Keppler Park. The man was then airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in unknown condition, the release stated.
Homeowners were not present at the time of the incident, and no other injuries were reported, according to the release.
The initial investigation indicates the Nissan was traveling south on Oakwood Avenue when it drove onto the property, struck the side of the house and continued into and through the garage, coming to rest on its roof, the release stated.
The witness said Friday is garbage pickup day, and what he thought was the sound of a garbage truck was actually the impact of the vehicle hitting the garage.
The homeowners declined to comment.
The crash remains an active investigation, and the West Chicago police are not releasing additional details about the driver at this time, Cmdr. Eric Shipman said.
The police are being assisted by members of the DuPage County Accident Reconstruction Team, and the investigation is expected to take a couple weeks, Shipman said.
The habitability of the house will be determind by a building inspector from the city of West Chicago's Community Development Department, according to the release.
