Local residents took to the water and streets of Naperville last Sunday to take part in the U.S. Women’s Triathlon Series. It was the first stop on a four-city national series, which continues in Washington, California and Texas.
This was the ninth year of the event. The proceeds benefited The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, which focuses on early diagnosis and treatment, as well as research toward a cure.
Over 2,000 competitors took part in a nearly half-mile swim, a 13.6-mile bike ride and a 5K run.
Lisle’s Elizabeth Fedofsky placed fourth overall and fourth in her division with an overall time of 1:11:42. She completed the swim in 9:41, the bike in 37:43 and the run in 20:14.
Bolingbrook resident Kara Bruzan finished 11th overall (and first in her division) with a time of 1:15:49. She finished her swim in 11:46, clocked a 37:10 on the bike and then finished the 5K in 21:41.
Julia Gajcak of Lisle cracked the top-50 by clocking a 44th--place time of 1:20:59. She also finished seventh in her division.
Bolingbrook’s Christy Vehe cracked the top-100 with a 69th place finish. She finished seventh in her division with an overall time of 1:23:28 and finished her swim in 9:20.
Woodridge’s Shauna Casey was 126th overall and 10th in her division with a time of 1:26:47.
Lisle residents Carissa Tyo (141st, 1:27:24), Heidi Athas (267th, 1:30:58), Anne Gasperec (277th, 1:31:27), Lynette Pestel (357th, 1:33:20), Lydia Zebutis (390th, 1:34:05) and Aynthia Biechler (427th, 1:35:05) cracked the top-500. Tyo, Pestel and Zebutis earned top-50 finishes in their respective divisions.
Bolingbrook’s Dina Kosiba (264th, 1:30:53) and Corine Solberg (341st, 1:32:55) were in the top-500 overall and in the top-100 in their division, as was Kelly Warner of Woodridge (1:33:57).
Bolingbrook’s Jessie Hanouw (1:37:18) and Myra Vega-Soto (1:37:22), along with Lisle’s Joanne Haldeman (1:38:06) and Marie Markham-Gonzalez (1:38:09), finished in the top-600.
Lisle’s Krissy Glass (1:39:55), Marianne Potterton (1:42:14) and Stephanie Fiore (1:44:13) cracked the top-1,000, as did Bolingbrook’s Jennifer Ciezczak (1:39:17), Audrey Mangino (1:39:33), Margaret Vimont (1:40:00), Eileen Schedel (1:41:51), Linda Keegan (1:42:06), Karen Mehrbrodt (1:43:20), Edna Esposito (1:43:38) and Debbie Caputo (1:45:13). Monica Raths of Woodridge also joined that group with a time of 1:39:42.
Lisle’s Nancy Klimah (1:55:21), Adriana Caliendo (1:56:21), Jan Hamning (2:02:44), Joanna Oehler (2:16:40) and Margaret Skubis (2:32:04) all finished between 1,000 and 1,900. They were joined by Bolingbrook’s Connie Ogilvie (1:58:32), Mary Zalabak (2:04:37), Elizabeth Anderson (2:07:20), Debbie Doyle (2:17:58), Cindy Lockler (2:19:05) and Beth Ciner (2:19:46).
Woodridge’s Emily Godlewski (1:47:50), Kathy Travis (1:53:33), Karin Davey (1:57:49), Megan Murphy (2:02:48) and Ebonie Cobb (2:09:28) also crossed between 1,000th and 1,900th place.
