Maggiore named Downers North's new girls hoops coach

Paul Maggiore has been familiar in the West Suburban Conference football coaching ranks for the past 15 years, but will be bouncing over to another sport come this winter.
Maggiore, a teacher and assistant varsity football coach at Downers Grove South, has accepted the head varsity girls basketball position at crosstown rival Downers North for the upcoming season.
He succeeds Darrin Travillian (who resigned after two years to move to Tennessee), and Maggiore will be joined on his Trojans’ staff by another coach with Downers South ties — assistant Ellen O’Brien was the Mustangs’ head girls varsity coach from 1990 to 2007.
While Maggiore coached girls basketball earlier in his career, football has been his main focus in recent years.
He was the head varsity football coach for six years at Willowbrook, guiding the Warriors to an 8-2 record and playoff appearance in 1995. He begins his seventh season on the Downers South football staff this fall.
