Portable toilet up in flames
A portable toilet was burned Aug. 24 at McCollum Park, 6801 Main St.

The incident occurred just after 12:30 a.m. between the park’s baseball diamonds.

A passerby who saw flames in the park while driving on Main Street notified police. The witness did not see anyone in the park.

The Downers Grove Fire Department were called to the park and extinguished the fire.

Garage door vandalized
A garage door was vandalized between 1 and 9:45 a.m. Aug. 28 in the 1700 block of Hawkins Avenue, police said. Orange silly string was sprayed on the garage door of the home and the driveway. The string spelled out words, of undetermined context.

Car damaged by gun pellets
Police said a car was likely damaged by gun pellets between 1 and 10:15 a.m. Aug. 22 in the 2500 block of Ogden Avenue.

The windshield was damaged in three places, according to the police report. Damage is estimated to be $200.

Rock thrown at window
A woman told police that a large rock was thrown at her home, which damaged her concrete window ledge. The incident occurred between noon and 10:15 p.m. Aug. 22 in the 6900 block of Grand Avenue.

The woman told police that she heard the rock hit the home, a car drive away quickly but saw no car. Police reported they saw a “large boulder” on the ground near the damage location.

Theft reported at hospital
An iPod Nano was stolen out of a critical care unit patient room, according to police. The victim was the wife of a patient at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital who left the iPod sitting on the bedside table.

Police said the incident occurred between 8 and 9:45 a.m. on Aug. 23.

Man charged with DUI
A man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after being arrested at about 1:45 a.m. Aug. 26.

Donald S. Wieringa, 19, 480 74th St., Downers Grove was arrested after being pulled over in the 7400 block of Lemont Avenue, police said.

DUI alleged
A woman was charged with driving under the influce of alcohol after being arrested at about 3:15 a.m. Aug. 21 at Ogden and Linscott avenues, police said.

Zenaida Palacaios, 33, of Berwyn alsowas charged with having no insurance, improper lane usage and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Man charged with DUI
A man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after being arrested Aug. 22 in the 6200 block of Fairview Avenue.

Police said Ronnie G. Dimitrakopouslos, 53, 121 39th St., Downers Grove also was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Westmont
GPS unit taken from car
Police said a navigation system unit, valued at $125, was reported taken from a car sometime during the overnight hours Aug. 27 in the 900 block of Cumnor Road. Police said the vehicle was unlocked at the time of the theft.

Theft reported at park
Police said an aerator, valued at $2,700, was reported taken from a pond between 11 a.m. Aug. 26 and 11:15 a.m. Aug. 27 at Twin Lakes Park, 59th and Williams streets. No suspect information was given.

Man charged with theft
Brett Benavides, 37, no known address, was charged with retail theft after police said he allegedly stole a bottle of whiskey from a store. The incident occurred at about 5 p.m. Aug. 26 at an unnamed business in the 0 to 100 block of West 63rd Street, police said.

Police said Benavides also had four outstanding warrants.

Men face felony charges
Ian W. Berg, 21, and Gerald Burks, 21, both of Bolingbrook, were charged with felony retail theft after police said they allegedly stole $1,700 worth of sterling silver items from a business.

The jewelry was recovered by police. The incident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at a business in the 0 to 100 block of East Ogden Avenue, police said.

Unlocked car burglarized
Police said a global positioning system unit, a cell phone, and a wallet were reported taken from an unlocked car overnight Aug. 25 near 67th Street and Cass Avenue, police said. The items were valued at $500.

Man charged with DUI
Daniel M. Baumann, 26, 6001 Osage, Downers Grove was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs after he was pulled over for a traffic stop at about 8:45 p.m. Aug. 23 near the intersection of Cass and Ogden avenues, police said.

Business burglarized
Police said a business was reported burglarized between 8:30 and 11 p.m. Aug. 21 in the 700 block of Pasquinelli Drive. Police said nothing was reported taken, but damage is listed at about $300.

Portable toilet damaged
Police said a portable toilet and a surrounding structure were damaged at about 8:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at  Summerhill Park, Sundowner Road and Parkside Drive. No damage estimate was given.

Store theft reported
Police said a retail shop in the 7500 block of Janes Avenue was burglarized between 8 p.m. Aug. 13 and 9 a.m. Aug. 14. About $850 was removed. No indication was given how the building was entered.

Music players missing
Police said two MP3 music players, valued at $96, were reported taken form a store at about 1:15 p.m. Aug. 13 at an unnamed business in the 12000 block of 63rd Street.

CDs stolen from car
Police said four compact discs and an unknown amount of spare change were reported taken after a car was entered between 6 p.m. Aug. 11 and 8 a.m. Aug. 12 in the 3100 block of Andrea Court.

No value was given on the items, and police did not indicate how the car was entered or if it was unlocked at the time of the theft.

Restroom vandalized
A mirror and toilet in a public restroom were vandalized between 10 a.m. Aug. 24 and about 1:30 p.m. Aug. 25 in the 7900 block of Janes Avenue, police said.

Man nets damage charge
Christopher Trost, 26, 6571 Dunham Road, Downers Grove was charged with criminal damage to property after shattering a window at 3:30 a.m. Aug. 22 in the 7300 block of Woodward Avenue, police said.

Tires punctured
Three vehicle tires were punctured with nails between about 12:15 a.m. and noon Aug. 20 in the 2800 block of Edgewood Parkway, police said.

Car window shattered
Police said someone threw a brick through the front driver’s side window of a car between 6 p.m. Aug. 19 and 6 a.m. Aug. 20 while the vehicle was parked at Meadowdale Lane and Burr Ridge Court, police said.

Keys, alarm key pad stolen
A set of keys and a key pad for a home alarm were stolen from a car at about 1 a.m. Aug. 19 in the 8000 block of Geneva Road, police said.

3 net theft charges
At about 3:45 a.m. Aug. 17., Woodridge police officers were called to the 2100 block of Country Club Drive for a theft in progress.

Police said Ehab Gabr, 20, 1614 Manhattan Street, Bolingbrook was charged with theft of motor vehicle parts and obstructing/resisting a police officer; Marlon Warren, 21, of Joliet was charged with obstructing/resisting an officer; and Javier Axocoyopa, 20, 232 Lancaster Drive, Bolingbrook was charged with theft of motor vehicle parts.
