Woodridge police are investigating the cause of a fatal accident that killed a Romeoville man after his car apparently crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a semi-truck Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Woodridge police said James Kaylor, 19, of Romeoville was killed when his car collided with the truck at about 1 a.m. along Joliet Road near St. James Gate Drive. The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.
Police said the accident is under investigation, but a preliminary information indicates Kaylor was driving northbound when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck the southbound truck head-on, according to police.
Police said the truck driver, who was not identified, tried to apply his brakes, but was unable to avoid the crash. The Bolingbrook Fire Department indicated Kaylor was pronounced dead a the scene, according to a release.
Police indicated drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor to the crash, however toxicology reports on the accident will be forthcoming.
The accident forced the closure of Joliet Road between Bluff and Davy roads until about 5 a.m., and the remaining section was reopened at 7:40 a.m. today, police said.
