A former Westmont firefighter arrested in July of 2009 for allegedly stealing drugs from a village-owned vehicle pled guilty to a lesser charge.
Giermann pled guilty on Aug. 16 to criminal trespass to a motor vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
As part of the plea, he will receive 24 months probation, 10 days in a Sheriff’s Department work program, and undergo court court-ordered counseling, said Paul Darrah, a spokesman for the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Giermann, a former paramedic and part-time firefighter, was charged with three counts of felony burglary and official misconduct after he allegedly entered a Westmont Fire Department vehicle and stole morphine, a controlled substance, according to the Westmont Police Department. He resigned from the department during the investigation in April 2009, police said.
Giermann, of Bolingbrook, was named the 2007 Firefighter of the Year by the Westmont Fire Department.
