A logo designed by Woodridge resident Pam Sanhamel will symbolize the 2009’s yearlong anniversary of the village of Woodridge and the Woodridge Park District.
A panel of judges recently selected the logo from more than 35 entries.
“It’s an honor to know that my design will be part of the celebration all next year,” said Sanhamel, who worked for the Woodridge Park District as its public relations and marketing manager for several years before leaving the position a few years ago to raise a family with husband Mark.
“I think my overall knowledge and involvement within the community did help; it helped me know the community pretty well,” Sanhamel said.
The design was unveiled at the recent Woodridge Jubilee, and will be incorporated into fliers, newsletters, letterhead and other support materials to promote the celebration.
In 2009, the village celebrates its 50th anniversary of incorporation, and the Park District will celebrate its 40th anniversary.
“One thing I had fun trying to accomplish was to share the word ‘Woodridge’ with both governmental units in the design because both entities are celebrating their own anniversaries,” Sanhamel said.
Sanhamel first sketched the rough concept, then worked on it at night after her children had gone to bed, she said.
The logo resembles a street sign/home address placard, and recognizes both governmental bodies by separating distinct units devoted to each group with the word Woodridge in the center.
A red area on top of the logo is dedicated to the Park District, and a gold background on the bottom is dedicated to the village.
“I chose red on top because a 40th anniversary is considered a ruby anniversary, and a 50th anniversary, of course, is known as a gold anniversary,” Sanhamel said.
A central green area with the named of the village is in the center of the logo.
“I wanted to make sure the design incorporated a dark green area with a tree outline to signify the community’s commitment to preserving open space,” Sanhamel said.
“Building on Our Dream” appears in red type below the main portion of the design.
“‘Building on Our Dream’ is a theme of the village, and we wanted to make sure it appeared somewhere in the design,” Sanhamel said.
Melissa Bohse, village clerk and member of the Anniversary Committee, said more than 35 entries were submitted and judged by a subcommittee.
“The subcommittee narrowed the number of entrants down, then the Anniversary Committee voted on the final version,” Bohse said.
Sanhamel, who has a bachelor of fine arts from Illinois Wesleyan University, said, “I really love being creative, and it was a lot of fun designing the logo.”
“It really is a good feeling to know I could use my talents and can give something back to the community,” she said.
