• Members of Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Downers Grove will be selling bottles of water for $1 at the group’s Heritage Fest booth in downtown Downers Grove Friday, June 27, through Sunday, June 29. This year, all proceeds will go toward the United Nations Millennium Development Goal No. 7 of working towards environmental sustainability. For the past few years, the U.N. and Episcopal Church Women all across the United States have been volunteering and raising funds for the U.N.’s eight Millennium Development Goals, which aim to help major development challenges in the world’s poorest countries. These goals, which the U.N. wants to meet by 2015, provide a key focus for Anglicans worldwide and locally at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
Through bake sales and general donations, the parish raised more than $3,000 for the U.N. Millennium Development Goal No. 6, combats HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. All school-age children at Saint Andrew’s will help fundraising and education efforts this year. A $12 net protects a family from mosquitoes carrying malaria, and buying a bottle of clean water at the Heritage Fest helps people in other countries have the same.
