• There still are several slots open for the Au Sable youth camp that will be held from Sunday, July 20, through Friday, July 25. The co-ed camp presents an opportunity for kids to be introduced to the life of fly-fishing in a very unique setting. Camp will begin with a tour of the watershed led by Professor Mike Wiley, head of the Department of National Resources, who will emphasize the geology that makes the Au Sable watershed such a special ecological treasure. The campers will have an opportunity to see the richness of the fishery by participating in electro-shocking and placing a woody structure to improve habitat of the fishery. • You don’t have to be Indiana Jones to star in your own blockbuster adventure.
The Bolingbrook Park District is encouraging people to “Get Lost in Bolingbrook” with a handy resource guide that maps out the best directions to local, budget-friendly family entertainment. With more than 50 creative activities, ideas and suggestions, the guide makes it easy for parents to chart a course for fun.
Activities are provided for mini adventurers (ages 2 to 8), youth explorers (ages 9 to 17) and adult navigators (18 and older), along with musical playlists for each group. Music and songs help create the soundtrack to our favorite memories.
Some of the resource guide activities include:
Bugs on the Big Screen — Catch bugs in your backyard or at local parks and then enjoy a themed family movie night with showings of “Bug’s Life,” “Bee Movie” or “Ants.”
Rock the Block — Learn new dance moves at the Bolingbrook Park District’s Dance Festival Sunday, Aug. 10.
Glow for it — Enjoy night golf at Boughton Ridge Golf Course.
Fishing — Derbies offer lots of outdoor fun.
Other events — Free Wednesday Night Concert Series and Summer’s Last Blast
