Achievements
• Desiree J. Smith of Bolingbrook is the recipient of a Northern Illinois University Dean's Award. The award is given to graduating students who demonstrate significant achievement and leadership in the areas of scholarship, campus and community activities and professional service. Desiree is graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism.
• Rebeca Manjarres of Woodridge has been inducted into the Pleiades chapter of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society. Induction into Mortar Board signifies high achievement in scholarship, leadership and service to the community.
• Millikin University's choral group the University Choir performed in China and Taiwan during a 12-day tour May 19-31. Soprano Annie Kennedy of Woodridge, was among those touring with the University Choir.
• Mary M. Czech graduated from Villanova University on May 18 and recieved a medallion — the university's highest honor — for being the number one finance major.
Czech is a resident of Lisle and 2004 graduate of Benet Academy and a 2000 graduate of St. Joan of Arc School in Lisle.
• Cadet Trayton Collins of Woodridge, a fifth-grader at Howe Military School, received a special award by attaining at least a B+ average in his studies in a college prep curriculum. Howe is a private, co-educational school for grades 5-12, located in Howe, Ind.
• Erin Knott of Woodridge made a research presentation during the Freshman Focus Day program April 25 at Milikin University’s Celebration of Scholarship. Knott presented a project titled, “Poker-face.” He is a theater major and is a graduate of Community High School District 99 North High School.
