Driscoll at Marmion
WHEN 7:30 p.m. Friday
WHERE 1000 Butterfiled Road, Aurora
RECORDS Driscoll 2-1, 0-1; Marmion 2-1, 1-0
OUTLOOK The Highlanders find themselves in a very unfamiliar place, having dropped a 27-7 decision to St. Francis last Friday night. That loss broke a 26-game winning streak, which included 11 straight victories in the Suburban Catholic Conference.
Now Driscoll must find a way to regroup against a Cadets’ squad that was no doubt disappointed by their performance in a 28-6 loss to Marian Central Catholic.
The Highlanders couldn’t get any going on offense against the Spartans as they were held to under 100 total yards. Driscoll was simply beaten at the line of scrimmage, an occurence that doesn’t happen very often. Look for the visitors to rebound with an inspired outing both on the ground and through the air.
Defensively, the unit yielded over 200 yards rushing to St. Francis which hurt them in the time of possession game. Expect the Highlandes to also rise up on that side of the ball, though Marmion can put points on the board.
The Cadets had opened the year with a 33-7 win over South Elgin and a 22-15 victory over Kaneland before falling to the Hurricanes in their SCC opener.
Fenton at Riverside Brookfield
WHEN 7 p.m. Friday
WHERE 160 Ridgewood Road, Riverside
RECORDS Fenton 1-2; R-B 0-3
OUTLOOK The Bison have lost two straight since an opening week win over Maine East, and injuries are a big concern heading into this key Metro Suburban showdown. The running back position has been hit hard with Tyler Sabala (broken hand) possibly out for the year and yardage leader Tyrell McGee questionable for the R-B game with a sprained ankle. Center Benji Sciullo could also be out with a knee injury.
R-B brings a unique A-11 offense based on deception, as all players could be eligible receivers depending on where they line up. The zany offense didn’t produced much early success, as the Bulldogs have been outscored 129-49 (although their three opponents have a combined 8-1 record). R-B lost just 18-14 last week to unbeaten Robeson.
“We definitely can’t give up the big play and we have to put pressure on their quarterback (Bill Vandemerkt),” Fenton coach Mark Farrell said. “And offensively we’re going to have to get back to running the football well, getting four yards a carry to set up the play action pass.”
Proviso East at Addison Trail
WHEN 7:30 p.m. Friday
WHERE Lombard and Army Trail Roads, Addison
RECORDS Proviso East 2-1; Addison Trail 1-2
OUTLOOK A wave of great athletes and an effective defense challenges Addison Trail this week, as the Blazers follow their win over Morton with the high-speed challenge of Proviso East.
The Pirates’ lone loss of the season has come by a 17-13 score to undefeated St. Patrick. Since then, Proviso East’s has beaten two teams with 0-3 marks: Lyons Township (20-14) and Willowbrook (20-0 last week).
