KEY MEETS
Sept. 27 at Loyola Lakefront Invitational Fenton hopes to figuratively walk on water come state tournament time. Running near the big pond will be a prelude to that quest.
Nov. 2 at Class 2A Nazareth regional After narrowly missing a sectional spot last year in Class 3A, the Bison have a great chance to break through this year in a field of smaller schools.
OUTLOOK
Having seven runners on your varsity team isn’t the usual recipe for success, but each of the Fenton seven played key roles in the Bison stampede to a strong sixth-place regional finish last year (a few points from reaching sectionals).
Heather Crowe and Rodriguez lead the way after qualifying individually for sectionals in 2007 with regional places of 23rd and 27th, respectively. Munguia and Mesino were both in the top 43, Falco was 51st and Holly Crowe and Rosas will make a strong push to break into the top five.
Fenton must clearly avoid injuries, but its postseason potential is greatly enhanced by the drop down from Class 3A (where the Bison ran against eventual state top-five teams Hinsdale Central and Lyons Township at regionals last year) to the smaller school Class 2A bracket.
