Walk-in pre-registration for the 26th annual Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot is from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov.21 at Schiller Real Estate, 540 S. York Road in Elmhurst.
The race begins at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, this Thursday. Registration is $25 per person, and online pre-registration is available at www.dangibbonsturkeytrot.com.
“It’s a great way to go out and build up an appetite before a Thanksgiving meal,” founder Dan Gibbons said.
The 5K race has raised more than $1.5 million for the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation, DuPage PADS, needy families and seniors of the United Community Concerns Association.
More than 6,000 people participated in last year’s event, which raised $114,000. Gibbons said it is especially important to aid those less fortunate this year, given the troubled economy, and aims for 6,500 participants.
“With the doubts of the economy, with more people out of work, more people need help,” he said. “Now more than ever, we need people to participate.”
