Elmhurst Children’s Theater will audition sixth- through eighth-grade actors for a performance opportunity. Comedy Sketch Revue is a chance for creative young actors to conceive, write and perform original comedy sketches in front of a live audience the weekend of May 29 to 31.
ECT’s debut experience with the art form was so successful last year, that the performers were invited to perform at the annual Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival, an opportunity they are hoping to repeat.
Director Tim Soszko seeks a cast of 25 to 30 children, who show strong skills in creating characters, improvisation and storytelling. Cast members display an ability to work well in teams, think on their feet, and approach every rehearsal and performance with energy and enthusiasm. Soszko is a professional actor and producer, whose resume includes The Second City, The Chicago Comedy Sketch Festival, Emerald City Theatre Company and Elmhurst Children’s Theater.
Auditions are open to students residing within Elmhurst School District 205 boundaries, including those attending private or home schools. Auditions will take place Tuesday, April 7, at York High School in room A260, with callbacks on Thursday April 9. Auditions times are as follows:
• Sixth-grade registration at 5:45 p.m.; auditions 6 to 7 p.m.
• Seventh-grade registration at 6:45 p.m.; auditions 7 to 8 p.m.
• Eighth-grade registration at 7:45 p.m.; auditions 8 to 9 p.m.
A parent must be present to register each child, but need not remain at the audition. All students cast in the show will need to commit to twice weekly rehearsals for the first three weeks, then three rehearsals a week for the last two weeks.
