To honor its many volunteers, the DuPage Senior Citizens Council is having its eighth annual Volunteer Celebration on Saturday at Danada House in Wheaton.
Volunteers will be recognized for giving their time delivering meals to homebound seniors, serving meals at nutrition sites, participating in the semiannual yard clean up program and assisting at the central office.
Fourteen Volunteers of the Year have been selected, and 22 Ambassador Club Awards will be awarded.
Volunteers of the Year are chosen by DSCC’s caring and patient site managers. Each site manager nominates one of their invaluable volunteers for this award.
Recipients of the 2008 Volunteer of the Year Award are Lois Orlow of Villa Park, Jim Albrecht of Glen Ellyn, Chris Blalock of Naperville, Francis Wenig of Elmhurst, Bill Bryers of Addison, Grayson Haller of Elmhurst, Hualin Cai of Naperville, Harriet Kunesh of Bartlett, George Wamsley of Wheaton, Rick Yule of Naperville, Claudia Andrus of Downers Grove, Laverne Northway of Downers Grove, Sue Ferguson of Darien and Naliniben Gandhi of Addison.
The Ambassador Club Award is presented to all volunteers who contributed 250 or more hours this year.
Recipients of the 2008 Ambassador Club Award are Natalie Insley of Lombard, the Ray Graham Association of Lisle, Laverne Kruzich of Downers Grove, Judith Podzerwinski of Westmont, Loretta Peteck of Glen Ellyn, Joan Kaiser of Lombard, Al and Hazel Smith of Naperville, the Ray Graham Association of Elmhurst, Jean Parker of Westmont, Betty Brooks of Wheaton, Robert Hermann of Downers Grove, Peg Rider of Bloomingdale, Edward Schulz of Lombard, Peggy Austin of Elmhurst, Ann Herlehy of Downers Grove, Sharon Mosetich of Villa Park and Lois Orlow of Villa Park.
