West Chicago, IL -

Wheaton Academy and the Forest Trails subdivision are no longer on lockdown after West Chicago police took a knife-wielding man into custody Thursday.

Deputy Police Chief Mike Uplegger said someone called the Police Department with the news that a man with a knife was in the area of the school, 900 Prince Crossing Road. After setting up an inner and outer perimeter, the man was caught at 12:30 p.m. after a chase in the subdivision, Uplegger said.

Police declined to identy the man since he was not arrested, only taken into custody and then to Central DuPage Hospital. Police would only say that he was a white man in his twenties.

An officer was injured while taking the man into custody, but the knife was not involved in the injury, Uplegger said. The lockdown lasted for about two hours.

Dave Pacheco, communication coordinator of the Wheaton Academy, said he was pleased with the police response of locking down the school. He said there were about 300 to 400 people at the school for summer classes and athletic camps. Students were not allowed to leave unless parents picked them and left the area.
