Experience the history of one of the country’s first holidays the old-fashioned way during Celebrating the Fourth at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's Kline Creek Farm in unincorporated DuPage County near Winfield on July 5 and 6.
In the 1890s, patriotism embraced somber reflections of our nation's history as well as excitement for the future of the country. Bring a picnic lunch, and spend a summer afternoon on the farm enjoying a community celebration honoring our nation's independence. Beginning at 2:30 p.m., hear songs, speeches and a reading of the Declaration of Independence.
Then, help churn ice cream, make crafts and see a model hot-air-balloon launch. Try your hand at outdoor games like hoops and graces, and explore the picturesque farmstead.
Reservations are not needed to attend this free program.
