An alleged drunken driver who was involved in a fatal car crash last week on Interstate 55 near Route 83 remains in jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
Robert Pas, 41, of Burbank crashed his Chevrolet Malibu into the rear of a minivan taxi at about 11:30 a.m. June 16, according to Illinois State Police. Dawn Voss Al-Shwayat, 38, of Darien was ejected from the van as it crashed into a ditch. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pas has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence resulting in the death of another.
After the accident, Pas was taken to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, where a test showed his blood-alcohol level was more than four times the legal limit of .08, authorities said.
Pas’ bail was set Tuesday at a bond hearing in DuPage County Circuit Court. He is scheduled to return to court Monday, July 28, for arraignment.
Voss Al-Shwayat’s husband, Hatem Al-Shwayat, 31, was driving the van at the time of the crash. He was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove in stable condition.
The crash shut down the southbound lane of I-55 for several hours.
