A New York woman was charged with prostitution after Darien police investigators conducted a sting operation that resulted in the woman’s arrest in a Darien apartment complex.
Peili Wang, 50, of Flushing, N.Y., was arrested at about 6 p.m. Aug. 13 after an undercover investigator went to an apartment in the 7500 block of Farmingdale Road and was offered sex in exchange for money, said John Cooper, deputy police chief for the Darien Police Department.
Darien police began investigating the case after discovering an advertisement on Craig’s List showed a woman was offering massages out of an apartment in Darien.
An undercover officer contacted Wang, who made an appointment with the officer, Cooper said.
“Once the officer arrived the woman offered him sex in exchange for money,” Cooper said. “The investigation was the result of information we developed from Cook County (Sheriff’s Office.)”
Wang is not a licensed massage therapist, nor was she named on the lease for the apartment, Cooper said.
The apartment did have a massage table inside it, Cooper said.
Cooper said this is the third case in the last 18 months involving arrests by Darien police of women who advertised on Craig’s List.
“They (Craig’s List) have done some things to make it more difficult for people to use the network for prostitution, but some still can get around it by using certain language,” Cooper said.
Wang was assigned a court date of Sept. 15 in Wheaton.
