The Riverfront Playhouse at 11-13 S. Water Street Mall in downtown Aurora will present “Spoof Night” at 11 p.m. Saturday, April 25. In making the last-minute choice to resurrect a late night alternative entertainment schedule, the playhouse is providing an opportunity for a group of college students to put on a production of original skits.

After a particularly successful show at Aurora University, the students had decided to take their acts on the road. A mere five minutes away from campus, in fact.

Aurora University students Alex Derry, Jeff Goins, Becca Hopp, Bridget O’Malley, Aaron Reynolds, Tammy Rodgers, Jeff Schilling, Jackson Schultz, Kevin Tumleson and Travis Winkler are members of The Actors' and Playwrights' Society (or TAPS), and have put together an hour-long performance of original skits. They poke fun at today’s hottest trends, including hip-hop music, horror films, cooking shows, and R&B superstars who have trouble keeping their fists to themselves.

“We worked really hard on these skits,” Schultz said. “I think people will be surprised by the range of comedy. There is something for everyone. It goes from mainstream satire to absolutely over-the-top ridiculous to ironically touching. It’d be a challenge to not at least smile.”

The performances directly follow the Riverfront’s current production of “Tales from Darkest Suburbia," and tickets cost $5 at the door, or $3 if one already has paid for the main stage production.

“Spoof Night” may contain some offensive material and language. While most of it is to be expected from college-aged students, some was deemed too vulgar to perform on campus. The material will be added back in for the late-night presentation at the playhouse.
