Noble Fool
Acting classes offered

Noble Fool Theatricals Performing Arts Academy students are offered programs including singing classes for “Legally Blonde” and “Little Mermaid,” adult scene studies from “Proof” and other workshops at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles.

In addition to six-week performance classes, the academy offers three-day performance camps. Ages 9 to 12 are offered a Tweens Musical Theatre Performance Class, “Nightmare Before Xmas”; ages 13 to 18, teen musical theater, “Sweeney Todd”; ages 7 to 12, singing in “Little Mermaid” and “Tarzan”; ages 13 to 18, singing, “Legally Blonde” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”; ages 13 to 18, improv; ages 8 to 18, audition technique; and ages 8 to 18, choreography.

Zombies rule
Riverfront reprises musical

It’s a zombie life for the Tri-Cities mother-and-daughter acting duo of Melissa and Alison Auer. They appear in The Riverfront Playhouse’s encore presentation of “Night of the Living Dead: The Musical” by Jack Schultz, on stage at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 1.

With script and lyrics by Schultz, and 11 new songs written by him and Kathleen Dooley, the play is based on the cult movie “Night of the Living Dead” by George Romero and John Russo. It tells the story of seven people trapped in a rural house by re-animated corpses who hunt down the living to subsist on human flesh.

Schultz penned the Riverfront staple, “Fat Bill’s Roadside Cafe,” which has been presented 14 times in the past 20 years in nine different versions. The special effects wizard for “Living Dead” is Shawn Dooley.

Premiere set
‘Retreat’ launches  season

Independent Players launches its season with William Nicholson’s “The Retreat From Moscow,” an area premiere directed by Larry Boller.

The family drama stars Marge Uhlarik-Boller, Jim Quan and David Smith, and will be presented at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 11 in the Elgin Art Showcase, 164 Division St., Elgin. The play, which received raves on Broadway in 2003, opens as Jamie, the 30-year-old son of Edward and Alice, arrives for a visit on the day his father has picked to leave his mother for another woman.

Car Show
Elderday invites entries

The Classic Cars for Classic Seniors benefit, the fourth annual Elderday Center car show, will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, in the Bethany Lutheran Church parking lot behind the Elderday Center, located in its Ministry Center, 8 S. Lincoln St., Batavia.

Awards will be presented at 2 p.m. by the corporate sponsor, Tri City Sheet Metal. Other sponsors include Ollie’s Garage and Thompson Auto Supply. There will be music, 50/50 raffles, food and refreshments. The registration fee is $15 per car, and is limited to classics, hot rods, customs, antiques, muscle cars and trucks. Admission is free to spectators.

For more information, call the center at (630) 761-9750. It provides daytime activities and supervision for seniors. The show was rescheduled to October by July rains.

Tubes, Glass
Hemmens shows near

The Tubes rock group and Ira Glass, host of public radio’s “This American Life,” will be featured this weekend at The Hemmens, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin.

The Tubes, in the theatrical tradition of Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart, will appear at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, and Glass will appear at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11.

Bazaar
Holmstad to present sale

The Holmstad Retirement Community will hold its 31st annual bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Fabyan Parkway and Route 31 in Batavia.

Admission is free. A raffle for a handmade quilt will be conducted. The sale offers crafts, needlework, jewelry, books, plants, homemade candy, seasonal decorations, cards, ceramics, collectibles and antiques. Baked goods, coffee and lunch will be available. Coming shows announced

Two theater productions and the return of a celebrity concert series are featured at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St. (Route 64), St. Charles.

“Some Enchanted Evening: The Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein” is presented through Saturda y, Nov. 1, by Noble Fool Theatricals. Curtain is at 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; 5 and 8:30 p.m. Saturdays; and 2 p.m. Sundays, with Thursday matinees at 2 p.m. Oct. 9, 23 and 30. Optional dinners can be added, and season subscriptions are available.

The “Late Nite Catechism” sequel, “Put the Nuns in Charge!,” will play Pheasant Run’s studio theater from Oct. 11 to Jan. 11, with shows at 6 p.m. Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays.

The resort’s Mainstage will present “Jersey Boys” star Michael Ingersoll in concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17.

Its Mega Center will present country music duo Montgomery Gentry, whose opener will be Keith Anderson, Saturday, Nov. 1, with an after party, followed Friday, Dec. 12, by Jeff Foxworthy and his Kickin’ Country Road Show. Special packages with accommodations are available.
