Boy Scouts hosts annualspring bedding plant sale
Boy Scout Troop 575 is offering flats of bedding plants and floral hanging baskets along with other specialty plants from the We Grow Dreams greenhouse in West Chicago.
Orders must be received by Monday, April 9, and pickup will be Saturday, May 12, in the St. John the Baptist Church parking lot.
Flats of 36 plants cost $16, 10-inch baskets start at $20, flats of 18 specialty plants cost $20, 4.5-inch pots start at $3.25 and deluxe 12-inch mixed combo pots cost $38.
Troop 575 has scouts from seven neighboring communities including Warrenville, West Chicago and Winfield.

Warrenville museum hostshistorical women exhibit
The Warrenville Historical Museum is hosting a series of traveling exhibits throughout this year on loan from the Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures at Aurora University. In March, through Sunday, April 1, the museum will feature an exhibit called Women of Hope.
It celebrates the achievements of Native American and Hawaiian women for their courage, compassion and commitment as native peoples. They are from various tribes and diverse professions including music, art, medicine and politics. The museum is offering this exhibit as a recognition of March being designated as “Women in History Month.”
Funds for the rental of the exhibit were provided through a hotel/motel tax grant from the city of Warrenville. The museum is open on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. and is located at 3S530 Second St.
Traditional Irish dinneroffered St. Patrick’s Day
West Chicago Sister Cities is hosting its annual St. Patrick’s Day Traditional Irish Boiled Dinner Saturday, March 17, at the American Legion Hall, 123 Main St. Social hour is at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The ticket price is $15 in advance and $18 at the door.

Winfield District 34 holdskindergarten roundup
The Winfield Public School District 34 will hold its kindergarten roundup at 7 p.m. Monday, March 19, in the Primary Building, 0S150 Winfield Road, kindergarten room 135.
Parents or guardians of students who will be age 5 on or before Sunday, Sept. 1, are invited to attend. This will be an informational meeting for adults only to learn more about the kindergarten program as well as fill out registration forms for next year. Parents should bring a proof of residency, such as a utility bill, driver’s license or tax bill, and your child’s birth certificate with the original county stamp. There will be an opportunity for the children to come in and see the classroom and meet the teacher at an open house in May.

Children can experience life on an 1890’s farm
Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago will offer the summer program “Kline Creek Farmhands,” where children ages 7 to 12 can experience life on a historic working farm, including chores and domestic activities as well as games from the 1890s. Seven, three-day sessions are offered throughout the summer.

WAYS offers tips inparenting classes
Parents can find themselves stressed to the point of being overwhelmed with their responsibilities and losing control with their children, and the Wayne/Winfield Area Youth/Family Services is offering a program called Systematic Training for Effective Parenting.
STEP can be used to help parents cope with the challenges of raising children, improving relationships with them and helping children learn to make good choices. WAYS has been offering parent education classes for more than 20 years.
The STEP class includes eight sessions held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evenings. New members may join the class at any time and receive a certificate of completion.
The cost for the program is $25 per session, however a consultation is required prior to the first session for $13. Registration is required and can be made by calling (630) 231-7166. Classes are held at the WAYS office, 27W031 North Ave., West Chicago.
WAYS provides individual, family and group therapy in English and Spanish, addictions counseling, youth tutoring and prevention programs. WAYS is a community-based nonprofit United Way agency serving West Chicago, Winfield, Wayne, Warrenville, Bartlett, Carol Stream, and Hanover Park.
WC Fire District explainsneed for referendum
The West Chicago Fire Protection District is holding informational meetings concerning the referendum to construct two new fire stations and to provide extra firefighter-paramedics. One takes place at 7 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Pioneer School, 615 Kenwood. At Turner School, 750 Ingalton Ave., the meeting is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 21.
