Car found driving on tracks
Samantha Phillips, 40, Aurora was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol after driving on the train tracks at about 4:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Hinsdale Avenue near the Stough Avenue crossing, police said.
According to police, Phillips was driving a 2004 Toyota on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks. The vehicle Phillips was driving struck a sign at the crossing, then began traveling eastbound on the westbound tracks before becoming disabled, police said.
Police contacted BNSF officials, and train traffic was delayed until the vehicle was towed, said Hinsdale Deputy Police Chief Mark Wodka said.
“Fortunately, there were no trains in the area at the time,” Wodka said.
No one was injured in the incident, police said.
Phillips also was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, trespassing/parking on railroad tracks, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, transportation of open alcohol and driving while license suspended, police said.
Man faces DUI charge
Othniel Torres, 23, of Schiller Park was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage and failure to signal after being arrested at about 2 a.m. Aug. 1 at Garfield and Hinsdale avenues, police said.
Dogs bite officer
Roger Longtin, 63, 5609 S. Washington St., Hinsdale was charged with two counts of failure to restrain a dog and two counts of keeping a dangerous animal after being cited at about 11 a.m. July 23 in the 5600 block of South Washington Street, police said.
According to police, officers were called to the area for a report of two unrestrained dogs. When officers responded, the dogs — both golden retriever mixed breeds — bit an officer in the leg and foot.
Longtin, who was not at the scene at the time, was contacted by officers and charged later, police said.
The officer bitten suffered minor injuries but did not have to be taken to the hospital, police said.
Possession alleged
Roberto Ixta, 17, of Cicero was charged with possession of marijuana, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving without a valid license after being arrested at about t 11 a.m. July 22 at Hinsdale Avenue and Washington Street, police said.
Construction tools stolen
Tools, valued at $1,600, were reported stolen from a locked vehicle after 5:15 p.m. July 28 in the 400 block of East Fourth Street, police said.
According to police, forced entry was made into the car. Tools reported missing included a hammer drill, right angle drill, a Shopvac, cordless kit and an 18-volt drill and extension cords.

Fight leads to arrests
Clinton B. Schneider, 37, and Anthony P. Schneider, 39, both from Hoopeston were charged with domestic battery after being arrested at about 4:30 p.m. July 30 after police were called to a fight in the 8000 block of Adams Street.
When two units responded to the scene, officers found the brothers in the back yard of a residence fighting.
According to police, the brothers were traveling in a black Ford F-250 pick-up truck driven by Anthony Schneider when the two began arguing over a girlfriend of one of the two men.
Anthony Schneider stopped the truck, and both men exited the vehicle and began fighting in the street, police said. The fight eventually moved into the back yard.
No one was injured in the fight.
Man charged with DUI
Colin A. Dahlstrand, 42, 2B Kingery Quarter St., Hinsdale, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and no registration after being arrested at 11:45 p.m. July 31 at Cass Avenue and Timber Lane, police said.
Wallets reported stolen
• A wallet and contents, valued at $880, were reported removed from a man’s pants at 5:45 p.m. Aug. 2 at Brookhaven Marketplace, 7516 Cass Ave., police said.
• On July 28 at 1:30 p.m., a wallet reportedly was removed from a purse left unattended in a shopping cart at the same store, according to police. The wallet contained $22, credit cards and a driver’s license. One of the credit cards were later used for unspecified purchases totaling $50 at several area businesses, according to police.
Ornament taken
A 5-pound, white, stone turtle lawn ornament, valued at $40, was reportedly taken between 10 p.m. July 25 and 4 a.m. July 26 from the back yard of a residence in the 7900 block of Grant Street, police said.
Tools removed from van
Tools stored in a work van parked for several days in the 1100 block of Chalet Drive were reported taken between July 18 and 26, police said. A lock on a side door of the van had been removed to gain entry, police said.
No value was placed on the tools, according to police.
