• Madeline LoPresti, an Allstate agent in Hinsdale, received the Agency Hands in the Community award for her commitment to volunteering in the community. With this award comes a $500 grant from The Allstate Foundation for Hinsdale Humane Society where LoPresti volunteers. Throught the “Agency Hands in the Community” grant program, Allstate agents and financial specialists are recognized for outstanding commitment to community service with a $500 donation to the charitable organization where they volunteer. To qualify for the grant, agents must show evidence of volunteer work that has had a positive impact on the local community.

• The 22nd annual 5k Rooney Heart Fun Run and Walk sponsored by Adventist Hinsdale and Adventist LaGrange Memorial hospitals begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, rain or shine. The run and walk goes through the residential areas of Hinsdale. A special jump rope for heart event for children will begin at 9:30 a.m. Participants will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt. Post-race activities include an awards ceremony, music and refreshments. Prizes include $150 cash for the best time overall in male and female categories. The top-three finishers will win prizes as well. Entry is $25 for preregistered participants and $23 for senior citizens 65 and older. • Baskin-Robbins, the world’s largest chain of ice-cream specialty stores, has announced its newest location in Bolingbrook. The store is at 751 E. Boughton Road. As a result of Baskin-Robbins franchising and expansion efforts, the ice-cream icon is welcoming a new franchisee to the Baskin-Robbins family, local community member Nichole Canino Labus. To celebrate, the Baskin-Robbins will host a grand-opening event from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27.
