• The Kiwanis Club of Lisle’s 36th annual senior picnic was at Sea Lion Aquatic Park in Lisle. The seniors were treated to Bingo with prizes. Then members of the Kiwanis Club of Lisle, Boy Scout Troop 108 and the Park District served lunch.
• The Lemont Junior Woman’s Club presents “Comedy for a Cause,” a casual evening of fun complete with a comedian, food, dancing and raffles. • The Darien Park District Garden Club was established in 2001 to let area gardeners learn more about cultivating gardens and landscapes and create a venue for sharing gardening skills and encourage pride and preservation of the natural environment. The club is nonprofit. Dues are $20. Guests may attend two meetings before completing a membership application and paying dues. The club will meet 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Darien Sportsplex, 451 Plainfield Road. The program will be a show-and-tell. • The Junior League of Kane and DuPage Counties, Inc., an organization of more than 250 women committed to helping at-risk youth in DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Will counties, will welcome its 2008-09 new member class during a special event at Reins of Change in Elgin Saturday, Sept. 6. After a summer of informational socials, new members will attend their first official JLKD meeting and participate in the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association Certified program at Reins of Change, which is owned by sustaining JLKD member Amy Lomas. During the course of the six-hour training, the JLKD leadership team, Rains of Change staff and resident horses, will work with the new members to develop strategic communications and problem solving skills.
