5 things to do around Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day doesn’t only have to be spent with a significant other. It can also be a day to enjoy with children, family or a few friends. Here are some ideas for a few special events that are happening locally around Feb. 14.

1 “Get your boogie shoes on.” The B.R. Ryall YMCA, 49 Deicke Drive, Glen Ellyn, is hosting a Valentine’s Dance for the entire family from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The night will include dancing, sweets, crafts and more. The cost is $5 per family for members and $10 per family for non-members. To attend, register at the membership services desk.

2 For book lovers between the ages of 4 and 8, The Bookstore, 475 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn, is hosting a Valentine’s Party from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday. Children are invited to the store for Valentine-themed stories, treats, crafts and games. Pre-registration is required. Call (630) 469-2891 for more information.

3 For those who love to dance, the Glen Ellyn Park District is hosting a Daddy Daughter Dance from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Dads can treat their daughters, ages 3 to 10, with a night on the town with dancing and making ice cream sundaes. The event will be held at the Main Street Recreational Center and the cost is $32 for residents and $48 for non-residents. To register, visit www.gepark.org.

4 For those looking to give on Valentine’s Day, Adventist GlenOaks Hospital is sponsoring a Valentine’s Day blood drive from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Roselle Bank and Trust, 1350 W. Lake St., Roselle. Donors must be in good health and at least 16 years old. Donors who are 16 must have parental consent. Donors who are 17 and older must present a photo ID. To schedule an appointment, call Michelle Daniel at (630) 529-0100. Walk-ins are also welcome.

5 For the food lovers, several restaurants are offering Valentine’s Day menus with special entrees and desserts, such as Glen Prairie Restaurant, 1250 Roosevelt Road, Glen Ellyn; Tap House Grill, 411 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn; Waterleaf Restaurant at the College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn; Adelle’s, 535 W. Liberty Drive, Wheaton; Ivy, 120 N. Hale St., Wheaton; and the Red Oak Room at Cantigny Park, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton.
